Five for Friday 3/11/2016

Five for Friday is a weekly post where you share five random things from today or in the past week on your blog.

  • I watched The Fault in Our Stars for the first time this week and I absolutely loved the movie. I have read the book quite sometime ago and I adored the book. When I found out they were making a movie based on the book, I was excited. And I just found the time this week to finally watch it. The movie is a MUST SEE, but be prepared to have the tissues handy.

  • After talking about it for weeks, I finally have made the step into eating healthy and running every day. I can already tell a difference in how I feel. My Fitness Pal is the app I am using to keep up with my calorie intake and to make sure I am not going over my calorie “budget” each day. Also, I cut out foods that are “fattening” and I have been running/walking 2 miles every day. On a side note, my legs are so sore that I can barely move.

  • It has been raining for the last few days and I’m getting so tired of this rainy weather. It has been raining so much that there have been reports of roads and homes being flooded. I am SO ready for some sunshine. And to enjoy some beautiful spring weather.

  • I have gotten a few Mary Kay makeup products in my hands this week and I cannot wait to try them out. I will be finally trying it out today since I was off work the last couple of days and I mainly been at home. In my opinion, I do not see the point of wearing makeup when you are not going anywhere. I am SO excited to try these new products out! I will let you know how I like these products.
  • Jamberry Nourish Moisturizing Hand Creme has also been another favorite of mine this week. I have used it constantly and it leaves your hands SO good. My hands seemed like it has been dry all week and the lotion has really helped.

Five For Friday 3/4/2016

Five for Friday is a weekly post where you share five random things from today or in the past week on your blog.

  • I ordered a new pair of Asics shoes and I got them in the mail this week. I tried them out for the first time at work yesterday and they are SO comfortable! Personally, I recommend these shoes for everyone especially if you are standing on concrete all day! They are the Asics Gel-Nimbus 17.

  • I started watching Fuller House on Netflix this week and I am obsessed with this show. It is just as good as Full House.

  • The Girl Scout cookies I ordered came in this week! I bought 5 boxes of cookies (so far). Samoas are my favorite! I look forward to Girl Scouts cookies every year.

  • I have nothing planned for my preschoolers this Sunday. I worked on planning my lessons last night and it seems like I am stuck. It is like I have writer’s block, but with lesson planning. Maybe I can find some inspiration somewhere between today and tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

  • I have been sick this week with sinus issues and coughing this week. That is good ol’ Tennessee weather for you. In Tennessee, we can experience summer and winter weather all in the same week which is making me sick.

Becoming More

Recently, I have been reading “Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl” by Lysa Terkeurst. It is a phenomenal book and I highly recommend for you to read it. I was reading a chapter or two of “Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl” tonight and there was a few quotes that really stuck out to me. I felt like it was something that God knew I really needed to hear because I have felt stressed out, unhappy with how my life is currently going, and hopeless this week.

I believe your calling is a lot less about big life achievements and a lot more about daily assignments.

I am starting to realize the things God has called me to do does not require a big audience or some huge achievement. It is the simple things that he calls me to do on a daily basis. It could be as simple as a hug or telling someone how much you appreciate them.

Isn’t it glorious how nature doesn’t resist God? Sadly, too many of God’s people cannot say the same.

This week, I felt like I have been resisting God because I feel unhappy about where I currently am in life. I feel like there should be more out there for me and that I am not as interested in serving Him as I should be.

Seeing the good come from hard things takes time.

I have been having a hard time seeing the good from not having a teaching position yet and getting turned down from a position that I was hoping to get. Reading this quote made me realize God has a purpose for me and He did not see fit for me to get either position just yet. Eventually, I will see the good from this situation. I am hoping that I will seek a position I want where I currently work or find a teaching position sometime in the near future. I just have to trust in God.

Five for Friday

Five for Friday is a weekly post where you share five random things from today or in the past week on your blog.

  • I ordered a new pair of Toms this week! Toms are my favorite brand of shoes. My feet have been hurting like crazy this week. I assume it has been having to do with the shoes I have been wearing and standing on concrete floors for long periods of time at work. I thought I would try a new pair of Toms since Toms always have been comfortable on my feet. The new pair of Toms I ordered is pictured below.

  • Breathe by Jonny Diaz has been on repeat this week. This song has really spoken to me because I have felt really stressed out recently. For some reason, I have been in a funky mood and this song has cheered me up. This song is one of my favorite songs right now.
  • I have been burning Frosted Cranberry candle from Bath and Body Works as much as possible this week. It is one of my favorite candle scents! I am not sure if you can still purchase this candle at Bath and Body works because it is one of their winter scents. You might have to wait until the winter scents comes back around.

  • I have been eating a lot of Mexican food. It has been something that I have really been craving. Mexican food is one of my favorite types of food, but I do not normally crave it as much as I have been lately.
  • I have been reading Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl by Lysa Terkeurst. I am almost finished reading the book. It is such a fantastic book and I have learned so much by reading it so far. I highly recommend this book!

Holt International

Since July 2015, I have been sponsoring a child through Holt International. I was chaperoning a youth missions trip to Florida. Holt International had a information table set up where we had something like a church service each night. I’ve been to places prior to this that had an information table for Holt International (or an organization similar to Holt) and I kept feeling like God tugging at my heart to jump in and sponsor a child. I never jumped at the opportunity until we went on this missions trip to Florida. While we was in Florida, I felt like God was really tugging at my heart to sponsor a child.

One night before service, I decided I would walk up to Holt’s information table and I saw pictures of many children who needed a sponsor. Srey Leak, the child I am currently sponsoring, really stood out to me and I felt like God saying that this child is the one. I took that leap of faith and hadn’t regretted it since.

This is the picture of Srey Leak that I received when I first started sponsoring her. This is the same picture that was on the information table. She is a 12 year old girl from Cambodia.

In September, I received this picture of Srey Leak. Sponsors get new pictures and an update every few months of their sponsored child.

I received this picture of Srey Leak in January. She has definitely grown! Holt International is helping her to have better educational conditions and providing educational materials and school uniforms to Srey Leak. They are also helping the family to have good income. I can’t wait for the next update! I will definitely update you as I get new information!

I’ve learned that, in a nutshell, sponsorship connects you with a child in need and empowers the child’s community to become healthy, safe, and self-reliant, breaking the cycle of poverty. It’s not a handout. It’s more like a hand up. Sponsors don’t just “give away” our money. We’re give our sponsored child a “boost” up and out of poverty.

If you feel like God is tugging at your heart to sponsor a precious child through Holt International, go to their website. I’ll leave a link below. You won’t regret it!
