Five for Friday 3/25/2016

Five for Friday is a weekly post where you share five random things from today or in the past week on your blog.

This week has been a struggle trying to come up with 5 five things to share with you from the past week. Sorry it is a day late! I totally forgot!

  • I filled out several applications for teaching positions this week. Fingers crossed that I land a teaching position for the upcoming school year!
  • I am currently stuck while planning my Easter lesson for my sweet preschool kiddos this Sunday. Help! I can’t decide what activities/crafts to do.
  • I have attended Holy Week services at a local church this every day this week. Except for Monday because of work. I am so thankful I was able to attend this week.
  • I have broken the tradition this year of buying a new Easter dress. It has totally crept up on me this year. Plus I did not really worry about it that much since I have to work on Easter Sunday this year. I would be able to make it to teach my Sunday School class, but wouldn’t be able to stay for the entire church service.
  • I don’t know if I mentioned this or not, but I FINALLY have started eating healthier and exercising everyday. I have been doing it for about 2 weeks now. I feel SO much better and I feel like I am starting to lose a little bit of weight. My jeans feel a little bit loser. Not sure how many pounds I have lost (if any) because I have not weighed myself.

  • I watched The Fault in Our Stars for the first time this week and I absolutely loved the movie. I have read the book quite sometime ago and I adored the book. When I found out they were making a movie based on the book, I was excited. And I just found the time this week to finally watch it. The movie is a MUST SEE, but be prepared to have the tissues handy.

  • After talking about it for weeks, I finally have made the step into eating healthy and running every day. I can already tell a difference in how I feel. My Fitness Pal is the app I am using to keep up with my calorie intake and to make sure I am not going over my calorie “budget” each day. Also, I cut out foods that are “fattening” and I have been running/walking 2 miles every day. On a side note, my legs are so sore that I can barely move.

  • It has been raining for the last few days and I’m getting so tired of this rainy weather. It has been raining so much that there have been reports of roads and homes being flooded. I am SO ready for some sunshine. And to enjoy some beautiful spring weather.

  • I have gotten a few Mary Kay makeup products in my hands this week and I cannot wait to try them out. I will be finally trying it out today since I was off work the last couple of days and I mainly been at home. In my opinion, I do not see the point of wearing makeup when you are not going anywhere. I am SO excited to try these new products out! I will let you know how I like these products.
  • Jamberry Nourish Moisturizing Hand Creme has also been another favorite of mine this week. I have used it constantly and it leaves your hands SO good. My hands seemed like it has been dry all week and the lotion has really helped.

Parable of the Sower

Preschool class was a small group last night at church so I decided it was going to be a relaxed night of class. Personally, I thought this was a neat lesson and that it really stuck with the kids. I wanted to do something different so I came across the parable of the sower in the Jesus Calling Storybook Bible by Sarah Young. I have never done this lesson before so I decided to give it a go.

This is such a neat book for children!

First, I asked the class who Jesus was. They replied with answers such as “the Son of God.” I had to go into explaining that Jesus was also a teacher and a storyteller to go along with our lesson. I went into explaining what a parable is which is a story that teaches a lesson. Afterwards, I started asking the class if they have ever heard the story of the Three Little Pigs. All of the children had heard the story being read to them multiple times. They told me what happened in the story and what could be learned from the story of the Three Little Pigs. Then I went into explaining that Jesus told stories like to adults, but it was stories about real things like sheep and trees. Jesus did not tell stories about made up things like talking pigs or wolf that huffed and puffed. His stories helped people learn about God.

After our Three Little Pig discussion, I showed the children the picture that correlated with the Parable of the Sower. Instead of reading the story out of the book, I showed a video that told the story instead. I thought the video told the story better than the book.

The snack we ate went along with the theme of the lesson. I bought chocolate pudding and topped the pudding off with crushed Oreos and sour gummy worms.

Hope you enjoyed taking a peak into my preschool class!

Five For Friday 3/4/2016

Five for Friday is a weekly post where you share five random things from today or in the past week on your blog.

  • I ordered a new pair of Asics shoes and I got them in the mail this week. I tried them out for the first time at work yesterday and they are SO comfortable! Personally, I recommend these shoes for everyone especially if you are standing on concrete all day! They are the Asics Gel-Nimbus 17.

  • I started watching Fuller House on Netflix this week and I am obsessed with this show. It is just as good as Full House.

  • The Girl Scout cookies I ordered came in this week! I bought 5 boxes of cookies (so far). Samoas are my favorite! I look forward to Girl Scouts cookies every year.

  • I have nothing planned for my preschoolers this Sunday. I worked on planning my lessons last night and it seems like I am stuck. It is like I have writer’s block, but with lesson planning. Maybe I can find some inspiration somewhere between today and tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

  • I have been sick this week with sinus issues and coughing this week. That is good ol’ Tennessee weather for you. In Tennessee, we can experience summer and winter weather all in the same week which is making me sick.

Becoming More

Recently, I have been reading “Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl” by Lysa Terkeurst. It is a phenomenal book and I highly recommend for you to read it. I was reading a chapter or two of “Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl” tonight and there was a few quotes that really stuck out to me. I felt like it was something that God knew I really needed to hear because I have felt stressed out, unhappy with how my life is currently going, and hopeless this week.

I believe your calling is a lot less about big life achievements and a lot more about daily assignments.

I am starting to realize the things God has called me to do does not require a big audience or some huge achievement. It is the simple things that he calls me to do on a daily basis. It could be as simple as a hug or telling someone how much you appreciate them.

Isn’t it glorious how nature doesn’t resist God? Sadly, too many of God’s people cannot say the same.

This week, I felt like I have been resisting God because I feel unhappy about where I currently am in life. I feel like there should be more out there for me and that I am not as interested in serving Him as I should be.

Seeing the good come from hard things takes time.

I have been having a hard time seeing the good from not having a teaching position yet and getting turned down from a position that I was hoping to get. Reading this quote made me realize God has a purpose for me and He did not see fit for me to get either position just yet. Eventually, I will see the good from this situation. I am hoping that I will seek a position I want where I currently work or find a teaching position sometime in the near future. I just have to trust in God.

Five for Friday

  • I ordered a new pair of Toms this week! Toms are my favorite brand of shoes. My feet have been hurting like crazy this week. I assume it has been having to do with the shoes I have been wearing and standing on concrete floors for long periods of time at work. I thought I would try a new pair of Toms since Toms always have been comfortable on my feet. The new pair of Toms I ordered is pictured below.

  • Breathe by Jonny Diaz has been on repeat this week. This song has really spoken to me because I have felt really stressed out recently. For some reason, I have been in a funky mood and this song has cheered me up. This song is one of my favorite songs right now.
  • I have been burning Frosted Cranberry candle from Bath and Body Works as much as possible this week. It is one of my favorite candle scents! I am not sure if you can still purchase this candle at Bath and Body works because it is one of their winter scents. You might have to wait until the winter scents comes back around.

  • I have been eating a lot of Mexican food. It has been something that I have really been craving. Mexican food is one of my favorite types of food, but I do not normally crave it as much as I have been lately.
  • I have been reading Becoming More than a Good Bible Study Girl by Lysa Terkeurst. I am almost finished reading the book. It is such a fantastic book and I have learned so much by reading it so far. I highly recommend this book!

Ladies, A Christian Boy vs. A Godly Man

Yes, yes, I get it.

“He says He’s a Christian.”

“He has a favorite Bible verse.”

“He goes to church.”

I’ve heard it all.

It’s a hard realization to come to. I know.

But is he a Christian boy or a Godly man?

After some extensive Pinterest-quote scanning, I have distinguished some differences between the two.

Does he say that God is his number one? Or does he actually love God more than you?

Can he recite Bible verses? Or does he live them out?

Is he going to church? Or is he being the church?

Is he merely respecting your purity? Or is he protecting your purity?

Is he leading you closer to only himself? Or is he leading you closer to God?

Does he say, “I’m praying for you.”? Or does he pray with you?

Do you see Jesus in…

Welcome to Heaven!

We had another great day in Preschool Class yesterday! I am excited to share our lesson last night.  The kids really got into it.

First, I made a sign that said “Welcome to Heaven.” (Warning: it was made at the last minute. So it doesn’t look pretty.)

I put the sign on the cabinet door with a padlock on the handle. The padlock wasn’t big enough to fit around both handles so I had to improvise. I used a child lock so the kids couldn’t open the door.

Here is a close up picture of the lock.

I explained to the kids that we were going to pretend that this door will take us to Heaven and that I had several keys. I continued to explain that I didn’t know which key opened the door to heaven. Catch: I had the correct key to open the padlock hid in my pocket.

Each child took turns trying to see which key unlocks the padlock. Each key had a note on it saying something like “money,” “being strong,” “being funny,” “being good,” and “being pretty.” As we get to each key, I asked them if what the note on the key will get them to Heaven. For example, “Will having a lot of money get you into Heaven? Let’s find out to see if it will open the lock.” When the kids find out that it wouldn’t open the lock, I would explain that it didn’t open the lock so it won’t get is into Heaven.

Once we used up all the keys, I asked the kids what are we going to do next because we ran out of keys. Then I pulled out the correct key to the padlock. The note on this lock said grace. The kids tried this key and it unlocked the padlock. I explained to the kids that grace gets us into Heaven and I explained to them what grace meant.

It was a short lesson so I would recommend that you would plan something to fill up the rest of class time if you want to try this lesson. Unless you are looking for something short.

We watched a VeggieTales movie after the lesson.

Thanks for stopping by!
